  3. Time: The Big Differentiatior

Comments Off on Time: The Big Differentiatior

“You may delay, but time will not.” – Benjamin Franklin

Is it about time you use your time better? As a business can we afford not to? There are many things that are valuable to us: work, family, health, possessions etc., but it could be argued that the most valuable thing you’ll ever have, outside of your health, is your time. It is a resource unlike any other, you can’t buy it, rent it, borrow it, save it, store it, renew it or multiply it – the only thing you can do is spend it. In order for us to be effective in business we have to understand this and ensure everyone working with us also understands the value of their time.

“Work expands to fill the time” – Cyril Northcote Parkinson

At Enterpryze, a key part of our team culture is time, or more accurately, speed. We are in a hurry, we are working against time, every minute spent inefficiently is a minute wasted. We refer to the way we work as ‘organised chaos’. We embrace the way we work as it enables us to make quick decisions and complete tasks efficiently while at the same time being agile enough to halt an activity that is proving to be ineffective.

Have you ever felt like you’re always busy, but don’t have the work to show for it? This is the hamster’s dilemma, running on the wheel and not getting anywhere. It is easy to confuse activity with accomplishment. We all know the expression “work expands to fill time”, we have found this is especially true when jobs, activities and tasks are being carried out without firm deadlines, key stakeholders and KPIs in place.

Efficient and effective use of time

Efficiency refers to doing the job right. Effectiveness refers to doing the right job. When you’re efficient, you do the job in front of you in the best possible way. But, when you’re effective, you may or may not do the job in front of you. You do what most needs to be done at a particular point in time. In a business start-up environment this is especially true. Spending time on the wrong tasks can end up causing huge inefficiencies of resources. This is a very common problem and what we have found to help combat this is consistent communication in small, focused project teams and strategy or business updates straight from myself and the senior team to the whole organisation.

What I do to stay focused and efficient:

    – I visualise what I want out of life and assess my activities – if they are consistent to achieving my goal, I keep them, if not, they are eliminated

    – I work with my body clock to identify its peak times and try to schedule my days based on this. I know my energy is higher in the morning so I schedule priority activities during this period

    – I take time every day to visualise my goals and meditate. I find it increases my efficiency, decision-making ability and concentration for the rest of the day

    – I try to subtract an activity from my life each time I add a new one

“More is lost by indecision than wrong decision. Indecision is the thief of opportunity. It will steal you blind.” – Marcus Tullius Cicero

Not everyone can cope with the culture of working at speed. Speed requires an element of chaos that needs to be balanced with constant evaluation. If you work to this model you and your whole team need to be able to move quickly in the pursuit of common goals.

  5. Enterpryze solution selected by leading Asian bank to provide its SME customers seamless access to SAP Business One

Comments Off on Enterpryze solution selected by leading Asian bank to provide its SME customers seamless access to SAP Business One

Singapore’s United Overseas Bank to offer Irish company’s solution to its business customers.

An online and mobile-access solution to SAP Business One developed by Dublin based Enterpryze is to be offered by one of Asia’s largest banks to its extensive small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) customer base across Southeast Asia.

United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) – a leading bank in Asia headquartered in Singapore – has adopted the Enterpryze platform as a key element of its UOB BizSmart initiative to help customers digitalise their businesses.

Enterpryze software will be offered as part of UOB BizSmart to the Bank’s customers across Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia to help them enhance efficiencies. Enterpryze will deliver services including invoicing, inventory management, expenses, with a payroll system delivered separately by Asia-based HReasily.

Mr Morgan Browne, founder of Enterpryze– an EY Entrepreneur of the Year finalist – said that the selection of Enterpryze by one of Asia’s biggest banks to provide its customers a seamless experience when accessing the SAP Business One as part of its UOB BizSmart solution reflects the rapid advancement of the disruptive solution.

“This is a very big moment for Enterpryze. It is a global validation of our solution, having launched less than a year and a half ago. That one of Asia’s best-known banks chose our solution, which provides access to SAP Business One, for its SME customers shows the progress we are making. SMEs make up more than 95 per cent of businesses in Southeast Asia, opening up new market opportunities for us. In addition, it’s also what will flow from this thanks to the global recognition the partnership will give Enterpryze; Banks globally will be looking at this move by one of the biggest players in the industry to support their customers. We continue to have huge support back home that is making this happen, not least from Enterprise Ireland. This is testament to their work also,” he said.

The announcement is in addition to Enterpryze going live in seven countries in East Africa in August last year. The company, which is on target for the 200-job announcement made at its launch in late 2016, is now working with 30 banks globally thanks to the partnership with SAP. It grew its customer base to 5,000 users across 24 countries in its first 12 months of activity.

The UOB BizSmart solution is being deployed by UOB as a key solution for SMEs across Southeast Asia to improve productivity levels. According to the ASEAN[2], SME productivity can be as low as 20 per cent when compared with larger companies. With UOB BizSmart, SMEs will be able to automate administrative processes which in turn enables them to halve the time spent on administrative work and frees up resources for SMEs to focus on other areas of business.

Mr Lawrence Loh, Managing Director and Head of Group Business Banking, UOB, said: “UOB has been supporting the growth of Asia’s small businesses for more than 80 years and we know that ensuring efficient operations is a priority. As small businesses implement digital solutions to reap the benefits of technology, it is important that they use a solution that has the ability to grow with their business without the need for further significant investments.

“As such, we are working with Enterpryze to offer UOB BizSmart, a suite of cloud-based business applications, to enable small businesses to manage business processes such as payroll, invoicing and inventory management more efficiently and cost-effectively.”
